Comfort in the Wilderness

A 40-Day Devotional & Guided Journal for Walking with God Through Healing and Restoration

A deeply personal 40-day journey through grief, healing, restoration, and
learning to trust God in the wilderness seasons of life.

Written from real seasons of heartbreak, uncertainty, prayer, and
unexpected encounters with God, Comfort in the Wilderness invites
readers into a deeper walk with the Lord through Scripture, honest
reflection, guided prayer, and journaling.

For anyone walking through loss, waiting, emotional pain, or spiritual
weariness, these reflections offer encouragement to keep seeking God
even when the path forward feels uncertain. The wilderness is not always
where God abandons us. Often, it becomes the very place where He restores
us and teaches us to know His heart more deeply.

Comfort in the Wilderness

There are seasons when life feels stripped down to survival. Seasons where prayers seem heavy, answers delayed, and the future uncertain.

This devotional was born in one of those wilderness places.

Through grief, restoration, healing, and unexpected encounters with God, I discovered that the wilderness is not always where God abandons us.

Sometimes it is where He speaks most clearly.

Example Day from Book

Day 18 – Grace in Our Weakness

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
One of the questions that I was presented with that day was simple but difficult: Where do I need God’s grace the most right now?

About the Author

Jon Syvertson is a follower of Christ, writer, homesteader, and co-founder of Upward Way Homestead alongside his wife, Charmaine. Raised in the hills and small towns of Wisconsin, Jon developed a deep love for nature, quiet places, and the nearness of God found away from the noise of the world.

After many years working in the field of software engineering, Jon was led to a ministry in Northern California centered around healing, restoration, simple living, and helping others draw closer to God through intentional living and faith.

Comfort in the Wilderness was born out of real seasons of grief, uncertainty, surrender, restoration, and unexpected encounters with God. Through personal wilderness experiences, Jon discovered that some of the deepest places of healing are often found where God gently meets us in our weakness and teaches us to trust Him more fully.

Through writing, reflection, prayer, and the ministry of Upward Way Homestead, Jon’s desire is to encourage others to encounter God personally and to discover that even in difficult seasons, the wilderness can become a place of restoration, intimacy, and renewed hope.
